Artists Statement:
I come from theatre. I mostly want to make work that is definitely theatrical, not necessarily theatre. I want to create work that brings people in the same room together to experience it simultaneously. I want to make you laugh and hear it. I love it when people want to talk about the performance/story/show after experiencing it. And I love it when I’m not a part of those conversations – they are none of my business! But when I know they are happening, I feel grateful and proud.
Behind most of anything I make is my desire for your attention. It doesn’t matter much if it’s me on stage or someone else – through your attention, I feel connection. …and I guess connection is actually all I really want.
Mostly, I write stories that are meant to be listened to live with a group of people. Sometimes I make another kind of other thing (music, buttons, finger puppets, videos, zines, etc.) that I hope would compliment those stories. Currently, that kind of other thing, that is meant to complement those stories, is knitting.
